Forester – Timber Investment Specialist – Renewables Expert

With more than 30 years of experience in the international forest products, timberland investment, and renewable energy sectors, Frank is a serial entrepreneur with broad expertise in forest science, timberland evaluation, financial analysis, and forest information systems. In addition to his work with Summit, he currently is president of Long Range Renewables, an advisory firm that works with forest landowners and investors on transactions and special projects. Frank also has experience in carbon monetization, mitigation banking, and land transaction management.

Earlier in his career, Frank helped co-found and lead a large, independent forest investment firm, Forest Systems, LLC. The company, for which Frank served as Managing Director of Forest Operations, oversaw timberland assets in nine states valued at more than $800 million. It also advised private equity and conservation organizations on $3.0 billion worth of land acquisitions and M&A activities, including the $1.8 billion buyout of Boise Cascade Corporation’s forest portfolio by Madison Dearborn Partners in 2005. Forest Systems was acquired by a competitor in 2007 after which Frank served as Manager of Research and Analysis with a successor company, Forest Systems Holdings, which focused on the development of carbon forestry and forest-based renewable energy projects in the U.S. Southeast and Brazil. Frank began his career by holding a variety of financial management, information systems, wood procurement, and forest management positions with Container Corporation, Great Northern Nekoosa, and Resource Management Service.

A veteran, Frank was a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces and graduated from the U.S. Army Intelligence School. He earned his MS in forestry at Duke University and he is a graduate of Bucknell University where he earned his degree in biology and studied finance. He also competed in cross country and track & field and is a member of Bucknell’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Throughout his life, Frank has been an active and enthusiastic supporter of the Boy Scouts of America.
